According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Everton are interested in a January move for winger Yacine Brahimi. The 28-year-old currently plays his football at Portuguese giants Porto and has done so since leaving Spanish outfit Granada back in 2014, with the attacker’s impressive exploits in the Primeira Liga seemingly attracting the interest of Toffees manager Marco Silva.

And that’s because reports suggest that the Merseysiders are eyeing up a move for the £23.4 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) in this month’s transfer window, with a cut-price deal potentially in the offing given Brahimi is out of contract at Porto at the end of the season.

And were the Toffees to indeed seal a deal for the highly-rated Algeria international, it could represent yet another masterstroke from director of football Marcel Brands.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Dutchman made the move to Goodison Park back in May and thus oversaw a busy summer of recruitment at the Premier League club, with several big-money signings in the form of Richarlison, Lucas Digne, and Yerry Mina making the move to Merseyside.

And with plenty of them proving their worth in the first half of the campaign, as well as the loan additions of Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma, it’s fair to say that Brands pulled off many masterstrokes during the close season in a bid to help Silva take Everton up the Premier League table.

And a cut-price deal for Brahimi could prove to be another to add to the Dutchman’s growing list of transfer masterstrokes.

28-year-old Brahimi has been something of a revelation since making the move to Porto back in 2014, with the winger since then netting 48 goals and laying on 40 assists in 191 appearances for the Portuguese heavyweights, equating to a direct contribution every 157 minutes of action.

And with seven goals and six assists in all competitions for the Primeira Liga leaders this time round, the Algerian star continues to go from strength to strength to suggest that he would add a great deal of quality down the Everton flanks - an area of the squad that has at times been lacking in such quality this term.

Richarlison has made a fine start to life at Goodison Park this season, but the likes of Theo Walcott and Bernard haven’t quite got going down the flanks with just four goals between them in all competitions - and Ademola Lookman doesn’t appear to be in favour under new boss Silva either.

As such, there does appear to be scope for Brands to try and lure another accomplished winger to Goodison Park, and he could do a lot worse than look at Brahimi as the man for the job, not least given he would likely command a cut-price figure given his contract situation.

But given what he has delivered for Porto in the last few years, his arrival at a lowly price could prove to be yet another masterstroke from Dutchman Brands.
