Deal close as Everton’s Koeman-inspired revolution continues to take shape

It’s been a truly exciting summer for the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve enjoyed watching Ronald Koeman splash the cash at Goodison Park.

Indeed, the Toffees in our Tavern are seriously excited about the complexion of their squad these days, though reports from the Daily Mail hint at a relatively unpopular move on Merseyside.

They’ve revealed that Gareth Barry is close to joining West Bromwich Albion in a £1m move, much to the annoyance of our resident Evertonians. While the 36-year-old may struggle for first-team minutes these days, few would doubt his assured quality in the middle of the park.

Our local Toffees were eager to see he and Wayne Rooney share all their experience with the club’s burgeoning talents, though that doesn’t look like happening now.

Barry is thought to be a popular figure at the club, though reportedly understood his playing time would be limited, as Everton chase Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Having made over 150 appearances for the club, his departure is likely to shed a few tears amongst our punters.

Landlord’s Verdict:

A move that makes sense for all parties, Everton will end up missing Barry. An assured presence in the middle of the pitch, it’ll be a shame to see him go.
