Everton boss admits uncertainty on future of player

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing whether or not their club should sell one first-team squad member this month, after hearing comments from their manager.

The Daily Express quotes Toffees boss Ronald Koeman as being uncertain on whether Phil Jagielka will remain at Goodison Park beyond this month, with Premier League strugglers Sunderland eyeing a swoop.

England international Jagielka has slipped down the pecking order on Merseyside, behind Ashley Williams and Ramiro Funes Mori, and is unhappy with his playing opportunities.

Speaking about the player’s situation, Koeman said:

“He is not happy because he is not starting and that’s a good signal. What you need to do as a player is fight and make it difficult for the manager.”

“I don’t know [if he will leave this month], it’s all about if there is interest for Jag. Of course the last few weeks he did not start but he is important – he is the captain of the team.”

Koeman is understood to be keen to bolster his defensive options this month and our landlord believes Jagielka will go if any more signings in this area are made.

Everton fans, will losing Jagielka be a big loss? Let us know in the comments below!
