Midweek’s victory over Arsenal was of huge importance to the Everton fans still celebrating a much-needed three points in the Transfer Tavern.
The Toffees were about to enter full-blown crisis mode under Ronald Koeman, though can go into Monday night’s huge clash with Liverpool in good spirits.
Even more so now, following reports from the Guardian.
They’ve revealed Leighton Baines is close to agreeing a new two-year deal at Goodison Park after lengthy discussions with top brass on Merseyside.
The 32-year-old is in the last year of his current deal with the club and Koeman is understood to be aiming to keep a player of such experience around.
Having racked up almost 300 appearances for Everton, the former England international is one of the most experienced defenders in the Premier League.
Despite the fact he’s suffered with injury problems in recent seasons, the punters in the bar are simply delighted to see the former Wigan man extend his stay.
Noted for his pinpoint crossing ability and threat from set-pieces, Baines’ stay at Goodison Park will break the decade barrier, having signed way back in 2007.
Can Baines still be relied upon as first-choice? Let us know below…
