Former Premier League footballer Darren Bent believes Everton would be pulling off a fine deal if they were able to lure Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot to Goodison Park.
Everton have been linked with a move for the Frenchman, with Sport Mediaset reporting earlier this month that the Toffees were proposing a bid of up to €30m (£25.7m) to make him Carlo Ancelotti’s first signing. Speaking to Football Insider, Bent revealed that he would be delighted to see the 24-year-old in the Premier League – and suggested that Ancelotti would be the key ingredient in getting the deal done if the former PSG man sealed a switch to Merseyside.
He said: “What a signing that would be. A couple of years back, he was absolutely fantastic – when he was at PSG, he was a joke. I mean, they’d have a great midfield there, [with Andre] Gomes when he comes back, Rabiot if they get him over the line.
“And it doesn’t surprise me as Ancelotti being the manager of Everton you get linked to these types [of] players.”
Could Everton seal a coup for Rabiot?
It certainly seems as though Rabiot has been in need of a fresh start after enduring a tumultuous final season at PSG which saw him receive a disciplinary ban while his contract ran down, while his subsequent move to Juventus had seen him initially struggle for game time – though he has been playing more regularly either side of the winter break.
His recent move may make another transfer so soon rather unlikely, though reports linking him with a Juventus departure suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, Bent has every reason to believe he can bring the goods to Everton, with plenty of title-winning experience from his time in France, while the long-term absences of Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin would surely see Rabiot become a welcome addition to the Toffees midfield.
Rabiot’s stats may not seem so impressive – with no goal or assist of any kind since November 2018 – though the fact the likes of Serie A giants Juventus were happy to snap him up is surely a sign of his potential which Bent seems to hope he delivers upon at Everton if they secure his signature.
