David Prentice joined The Royal Blue Everton podcast and talked about Gylfi Sigurdsson's bad run of form and his lack of goals in the ongoing campaign.

Everton were on the receiving end of a harsh 3-2 defeat to Arsenal last weekend and despite going in front early in the game, Carlo Ancelotti's men just couldn't hold on and secure the win. A lot of that is simply due to their over-reliance on just a couple of true goalscorers in the team and Prentice believes that, due to his lack of goals, Sigurdsson has been one of the Toffees' biggest disappointments in the ongoing campaign.

He said for The Royal Blue Everton podcast (25/2/2020): "That's been the biggest disappointment for me this season. And you know, I'm speaking as a Gylfi Sigurdsson supporter, but for a guy capable of scoring a variety of goals that he scored last season to just dry up totally. It's not like he's been unfortunate, like we're seeing goalkeepers making great saves or balls pinging back off the woodwork. He just doesn't seem to be getting into positions anymore. We should be seeing more from him."

Looking at the 30-year-old's stats in the current season, it's difficult not to agree with Prentice's verdict as Sigurdsson has only tallied two goals in a total of 27 games across all competitions.

By all means, that return is simply not good enough and it makes Everton over-reliant on the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to be scoring on a weekly basis. Needless to say, this could be something Ancelotti will have to address sooner rather than later.
