This article forms part of our Profit Players feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how well a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how good of a deal the club managed to achieve.
Everton’s star man this season has risen dramatically in market value and could bring the club millions if they decide to sell in the future.
The Merseyside outfit are currently going through a transitional period with Carlo Ancelotti at the hilt and the Blues are set for a large overhaul of deadwood players in the summer.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Everton’s star player has been Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is not only the club’s leading scorer this season but is in the top ten highest scorers in the Premier League this term with 13 to his name. The Englishman has also recently penned a new five-year deal with the club, tying him down until 2025 (via BBC Sport).
His form has attracted plenty of praise, including from former England striker and ex-Toffee Gary Lineker who tweeted back in March, saying: “Great to see @CalvertLewin14’s progress. Getting better by the week.”
Calvert-Lewin has risen to stardom after arriving on Merseyside for just £1.5 million in 2016 from boyhood club Sheffield United (via Sky Sports). His market value has soared since his breakthrough into the Everton first team from his initial spell in the reserves. The 23-year-old was worth a nominal £90,000 when he first joined the Toffees and he has since spiked all the way up to £27 million, until the recent drop in the transfer market saw him dip to £21.6m (via Transfermarkt).
Once the upcoming business window opens, it’s no secret that Ancelotti has plans to transform this Everton side that were battling relegation earlier this season. If the Italian opts to build his side around game-changers like Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, it could further unleash the England youth international’s potential, likely seeing an even higher goal count this time next year.
Will Everton finish inside the top six this season?
Of course, with great talent comes great interest from some of the world’s biggest teams and it won’t be long before Calvert-Lewin catches the eye of some huge fish. After just signing a new deal, there will be no chance club or player will be considering any sort of move away, but if and when an offer does come along in the future, Everton could see their pockets lined nicely with the sale of this future household name.
