Everton edge ever closer to smashing club record in £35m deal

Despite a slow start to the summer, the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in a state of delirious delight for much of the past few weeks.

Under the stewardship of Ronald Koeman, life is pretty sweet for the Toffees right now.

After welcoming the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Yannick Bolasie and Ashley Williams to Goodison Park, reports from the Guardian have our Merseyside locals ordering the champagne on ice.

They claim a record-breaking deal for FC Porto forward Yacine Brahimi is edging ever closer as the two parties close in on a £35m deal for the Algerian.

While there is no fee yet agreed, the reported expectation is that a deal will be sealed for the 26-year-old attacker before tonight’s deadline.

Able to be deployed on either flank or through the middle, the French-born midfielder would smash the club’s transfer record, currently set at £28m for Romelu Lukaku.

Upon his arrival from Southampton, Koeman struggled in the market despite the lavish funds now available to him.

However, it is understood Brahimi will more than likely arrive in time this evening and provide the Dutch coach with a marquee name at long last.

For the Everton fans propping up the bar, they have been delighted at the news, having watched him in the Champions League last season.
