Everton fail in multi-million pound swoop for midfielder

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased with the work Ronald Koeman has done in January, but have told our bar staff they’re desperate to land further recruits.

That’s left them walking back over to the pool tables in a state of disarray, after being informed that The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Everton failed in a second approach for Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney.

Everton’s raised offer is said to be worth £8m but the Bundesliga outfit are refusing to sell and Delaney’s future has been sorted after he was handed his debut at the weekend, playing the full ninety minutes against Borussia Dortmund.

With that appearance, Everton will now not be able to push through a January move as FIFA regulations prevent a player from representing more than two clubs in one campaign – with Delaney staying with FC Copenhagen until this month.

The Toffees had tracked the 25-year-old during his time in Denmark but our landlord is now urging them to move on, as he feels this deal is dead- even if they were to revive interest in the summer.

A handful of Toffees fans by the jukebox here in the Tavern admit they don’t know too much about Delaney, but are putting all their trust in Ronald Koeman!

Everton fans, where should you focus for the remainder of the transfer window? Let us know in the comments below!
