Some Everton fans have criticised striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite getting on the scoresheet during his side’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal.
The Toffees were left frustrated in north London despite the 22-year-old giving his side the lead after just 49 seconds. Richarlison also found the net before the interval, but a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a goal from Eddie Nketiah ensured that the Blues left north London empty-handed.
Despite having scored seven goals in his last nine Premier League appearances under Carlo Ancelotti (according to BBC Sport), segments of the Gwladys Street faithful were frustrated with the Englishman’s poor finishing. He had five shots on goal and missed two big chances, which ultimately could have swung the tie in Everton’s favour, as per Sofascore. One supporter said that there was simply no excuse for missing the opportunities that he did, which another described his performance as “botched”.

DCL has to finish these sort of chances #EFC

DCL has done well recently and people will say “he’s done his job by scoring today” but he’s missed 3 great chances and in them tight matches it’s the difference having a top finisher and not. It’s still the priority this summer, as it has the last 3 without signing one #efc

Have to say DCL should have scored one of them at least 🤦♀️ No excuse by his standard and his form. #EFC

Unpopular opinion – DCL I’m so torn on this guy, I want him to do well but is he going to score goals against the worlds best, he misses more than he should and doesn’t get on the end of a lot that he should. He isn’t 18/19. Am I wrong? #efc #everton

I mean… we all rightfully questioned the starting midfield, but this is insane. Absolutely deserved a draw at least. Gylfi cannot play for @Everton anymore. He just can’t. DCL botched 4-5 chances in second half that he’s expected to score. #EFC
