Everton: Fans discuss former striker’s impact at the club

Many Everton fans have looked back at Nikica Jelavic’s time at the club, questioning if the striker was overrated or underrated.
Having impressed during a spell with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League, Jelavic would sign a four-year deal at Goodison Park in the January transfer window of the 2011/2012 season, costing the Merseyside club a fee of £4m.
A two-and-a-half year spell with the Toffees saw Jelavic score 13 goals in exactly 50 games in all competitions, before moving to Hull City, who were then in the Premier League.
Citing a desire to leave Everton to gain a place in his country’s World Cup squad ahead of the 2014 tournament, Jelavic would do just that, but Croatia struggled and the striker retired from international duty in October of that year.
Looking back on his time at Everton, fans shared a mixed response as they opted to engage with each other via social media whilst football took a break due to the recent pandemic.
Reacting to the question posed by Twitter fan account @thetoffees_com, fans gave a mixed response. One suggested that he wasn’t used correctly by former manager David Moyes…

Fairly rated. Everyone knows he was very good when he started and poor after. Although… He was not that bad after…. So underrated

neither, think everyones in agreement he had a very good impact the second half of the season after we signed him in january. didn’t quite hit the same levels but was still a decent enough player

Underrated and used totally wrong by Moyes …every other player was 20 yards away .

Getting on now, admittedly, but never hit the heights. An average striker at best.
