Everton fans on Twitter can’t stop agreeing with Liverpool legend’s comments

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern believe Jamie Carragher has hit the nail on the head with his comparison of Liverpool and Everton. Last night while on punditry duty for Monday Night Football, the defender, who made over 700 appearances for the red half of Merseyside, compared Everton’s appointment of Sam Allardyce to Liverpool’s appointment of Roy Hodgson back in summer 2010.

Sam Allardyce was appointed at Goodison Park at the end of November last year after Ronald Koeman was sacked a month before following a poor run of results that saw Everton languishing in the bottom half of the table. Since his appointment, Everton have risen just two places from 13th to 11th, but Big Sam has seen the Toffees to as high as 9th as the club’s early season ambition of securing European football becomes more and more unlikely with every match-day.

The appointment of Allardyce at Goodison bares a number of similarities to Hodgson’s appointment at Anfield eight years earlier as Hodgson, who would go on to manage England at two major tournaments, only lasted six months in charge of the Reds before being replaced by club legend, Kenny Dalglish, in January 2011.

Both managers seem to be the wrong fit for the club at the time of their appointment, and when the fans start to get on the back of a manager, it tends to signal a short tenure.
