Everton: Fans react as Marco Silva confirms injury doubt Andre Gomes out of Sheffield United clash

A handful of Everton supporters have been reacting on social media after Toffees manager Marco Silva confirmed that Andre Gomes will not be fit to face Sheffield United at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Portuguese midfielder had been a regular of the first team throughout the opening weeks of the campaign (WhoScored), but missed the Blues’ last Premier League fixture through a rib injury, which was not detected until after he played the full 90 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers prior to the international break.

Everton are continuing to monitor the extent of Gomes’ injury, but the 26-year-old is yet to reach a level where he is in contention to regain his place in Silva’s plans.

Speaking at his pre-game press conference on Friday, Silva stated: “Andre Gomes is out, and JP [Jean-Philippe] Gbamin is out as well.

“It’s the type of situation we have to see day-by-day [with Gomes]. He’s getting better, but he’s not in full training with the team. If he’s feeling better, he’ll start to take the next step, but we have to look at him day-by-day to get him in the best condition possible.

“We have to see in two or three days, and after that I can give more information to you.”

With Gomes out, it would be likely that Morgan Schneiderlin retains his place in the starting line-up alongside summer arrival Fabian Delph, although Silva added that there is competition for places, suggesting there is a chance Tom Davies will be able to force his way back into the Toffees boss’ plans.

Davies returned to Everton’s bench at the Vitality Stadium (although he did not feature against Bournemouth), having been omitted from Silva’s 18-man squad against Wolves and at Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup (TransferMarkt).

The England U21 international has just 11 minutes of action to his name this term, but plenty of Blues fans are calling to see the Everton academy graduate take the place of Schneiderlin against Sheffield United in the continued absence of Gomes.

Here is a selection of the reactions shared to Gomes being ruled out of action for the second week running through his rib injury…
