Everton: Fans react as Mina’s recent efforts acknowledged

A number of Everton supporters have been praising the efforts of Yerry Mina so far this season, after the Colombian centre-half was named as Everton fan site The Toffee Blues’ Player of the Month for August.

Mina played every minute on offer in the Premier League during the opening month of the campaign (WhoScored), in which he consistently lined up alongside Michael Keane, Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman in front of Jordan Pickford.

The former Barcelona man’s efforts as part of Marco Silva’s preferred backline also helped towards two top-flight clean sheets, recorded against Crystal Palace and Watford, which saw the Goodison Park natives boast the best defensive record in the league from the opening two fixtures.

He also averaged more tackles attempted (1.8) and tackles completed (1.5) than Keane (1.0 in both accounts), as well as blocking more passes (0.5 to 0) and playing more accurate short balls (41.8 to 39.3), while tying with the England international for interceptions (1.5) and accurate long balls (5.0).

A number of Everton supporters have been mightily impressed by Mina’s start to the season as a regular of the first team, and have rallied in support of the Guachene-born defender and called the £27.2m man ‘solid as a rock’.

Others have suggested the Barcelona outcast is doing enough to put to bed any concerns left behind by Everton’s failure to retain Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal following his loan spell from Chelsea last season, during a campaign Mina rarely featured in due to sporadic injuries (TransferMarkt).

Here are a few of the reactions to Mina being named The Toffee Blues’ Player of the Month for August…
