Everton: Fans reflect on Johnny Heitinga’s Toffees career

Loads of Everton fans have had their say on former Toffees’ defender Johnny Heitinga after he had his say on his coaching inspirations and his time at Goodison Park.
The Dutchman is best known by the Gwladys Street faithful for his penalty shootout altercation with Ashley Cole during the Toffees’ FA Cup fourth round replay win against Chelsea in 2011. He told The Athletic that he hopes that this is not the only moment for which he is remembered but stressed that every match was like a cup final. The former Netherlands international added that he has kept up with the scores since he left and that he will always be an Evertonian.
Heitinga, who now manages Ajax under-19s, spent five seasons at Goodison Park after his £6m move from Atletico Madrid in 2009, where he made 140 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing five assists, as per TransferMarkt. With that in mind, many Everton supporters were delighted to hear Heitinga speak about the club and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he loved his comments and said that fans do not appreciate him enough, while another added that he has some great memories of the ex-Toffees defender.

Love this. I think we don’t hold affiliations with enough former players, who seem to hold us in high regard.
