Everton: Fans remember former keeper in ‘best performance ever’ debate - Everton

Plenty of Everton fans have taken part in a debate, selecting the best performance they have seen live from a player for the club.

With the game at a standstill due to the pandemic, football fans across England have been engaging in various social media debates, and a latest one has seen Toffees fans looking back on the career of former keeper Neville Southall.

How many goals did Everton score in their title winning season of 1987?

After starting his career with Bury, Southall was quickly signed by Everton in 1981, agreeing a deal to join up with manager Howard Kendall.

In total, the former Wales international stopper spent 17 years at Goodison Park, and was largely number one for the majority of that time, making 578 appearances in total.

Mentioning Southall in the debate, fans looked at a performance from 1995 which saw the keeper play an important part in the FA Cup success over Manchester United, where he would make an incredible double save to deny Paul Scholes.

Such was Southall’s impression on fans of the club, his performances from 1985 and 1988 were also included in the debate.
