Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy – who bagged an impressive six goals in as many games against them – has hailed the impact that Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands has had on his coaching career.
Before his move to Goodison Park, Brands was the technical director at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven during an era where they won three Eredivisie titles and overlooked the transformation of the club’s academy setup. Indeed, the former Holland international was known as the “goal-machine” and is regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers, as per BBC Sport.
Van Nistelrooy told the club’s official website that he would not have got into management had it not been for the Toffees official. He added that he is in debt to him for his coaching career after inviting him to go back to PSV. Some Everton supporters were pleased with the former Red Devils idol and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that the comments were “straight from the horse’s mouth”.
