Everton’s woes continued as Burnley managed to keep them at bay at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon, with Jeff Hendrick grabbing the only goal of the match.

Despite Everton spending over £107m in the transfer window (according to TransferMarkt), the club find themselves stuck in the bottom three after the first eight matches, registering only seven points – winning two games, drawing one and losing five.

This away loss signals the fourth game in a row that Everton have lost, now really ramping the pressure up on Silva’s future at the club.

The game was a fairly even one but was made a lot more difficult for Everton after Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman was sent off in the 56th minute for his second yellow card of the match.

Afterwards, Marco Silva told the Everton club website that their fans deserve the respect of the players.

He said: “I understand that the fans are disappointed. But it is a moment for us to go there [to see the fans] to feel their emotion, because they deserve our respect.

“They came here to support the team – all through the 90 minutes they supported the team. We didn’t achieve the result they wanted and they deserve something more.

“It is a moment for us to be there with them and hear what they have to say. We have to show our faces when things are not so good. We have faith in the players. We have to work with them to improve them.

“I have no doubts in what we are doing. We need results but last season we had a worse moment than this one and how we reacted showed what we are able to do. We had a fantastic run towards the end of the season.

“I don’t have doubts we are able to do that again.”

Despite Silva reaching out to the fans, it wasn’t enough to divert their frustrations with him at the helm, with many now calling for his head.
