Graeme Souness has expressed his admiration for rising Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin as well as teammate Mason Holgate.
In his recent column for The Sunday Times (via Tribal Football), the former Liverpool man has picked the Everton pair as players to watch out for next season.
Souness has said he is eager to see how Holgate is utilised under Carlo Ancelotti because, despite being a defender by trade, he can slot into the central midfield role with ease.

The player who earned the bulk of the Scotsman’s praise, however, is the Blues’ top scorer this season. Calvert-Lewin has emerged from his shell and really set the Premier League alight with his performances in front of goal.
Prior to Ancelotti’s appointment, Everton were struggling to make their mark on the league and were stuck in a sticky relegation battle. Everything has changed since the Italian arrived on Merseyside and Calvert-Lewin has come into his own. The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals in the top flight this campaign, putting him in the top 10 Premier League goalscorers for the 2019/20 season, ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling and level with Raul Jimenez (via BBC Sport).
“Calvert-Lewin looks and moves like a top footballer,” Souness wrote. “He’s a wonderful athlete, it’s just whether he develops that cuteness and sixth sense to be in the right place at the right time.”
As the Toffees enter their first full season under new management, fans and pundits alike will be waiting to see how he can transform his side into one that can win titles. Players with natural ability and heaps of potential like Calvert-Lewin will hugely benefit from a manager like Ancelotti. It will be no surprise if he opts to build Everton’s attack around the clinical number nine.
