Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been put through the mill this week in light of what’s gone on with key man Romelu Lukaku.
Indeed, in case you’ve missed it, the powerful Belgian’s future now looks up in the air with your guess as good as ours as to whether he’ll be at the club next season.
Certainly, he wants things to be improved at the club with him citing an apparent lack of ambition in an interview with The Daily Mail – something many Blues certainly disagree with.
And, added to that, his Dutch boss appears to disagree, too, with Ronald Koeman coming out swinging in light of all the speculation and chat.
Speaking ahead of the Blues’ latest game against Hull City this weekend, Koeman dismissed Everton as unambitious, as well as moving to suggest the striker could still sign a new deal.
Quoted by The Express, he said:
“First of all the deal wasn’t agreed. 99.9 per cent is not 100 per cent and they are still trying to get the contract over the line.
“And that’s what I know from the board of the club.
“Of course I am not happy about that interview [with the Daily Mail] because if Everton is not a club with a lot of ambition then I wouldn’t be the manager.”
Strong words from Koeman, then, and our local Toffees are more than pleased to hear what he’s had to say.
He clearly knows what the club is about and many will feel he’ll do well to instill that in his striker.
