Hannah Cain has become the second player to be released by Everton Women after the club opted not to renew her contract.
The 21-year-old follows former teammate Inessa Kaagman out the door as the club look to remodel their squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Everton have released a statement thanking Cain for her services to the club. She joined the Blues in 2018 but suffered injuries throughout her maiden season. Her departure could indicate that another few players could also be at the end of their time with the Merseyside outfit.

Both Cain and Dutch international Kaagman – who was also released earlier this month – were signed by former Toffees boss Andy Spence, who was sacked in November 2018. His successor Willie Kirk could be looking to shift his inherited players and have a squad purely made up of personnel he has recruited himself.
Last year, Everton made the poignant signing of England international Izzy Christiansen. The midfielder joined from women’s football giants Lyon after she moved to France following her stint with Manchester City. Christiansen has yet to feature in blue but Kirk could be planning to build his midfield around the Lioness.
Defender Georgia Brougham is another who could risk leaving the club this summer. She was sent out on loan at the beginning of the year and enjoyed a brief spell with Birmingham City. However, as she joined the ranks in 2016, it looks like Kirk no longer has plans for her in his setup.
In women’s football, it’s not unusual for players to hop between clubs so it’s unlikely these players will harbour many hard feelings. For Kirk, however, next season will be one to watch as he looks to transform Everton into a title-challenging side.
