Everton have surprise target in mind as alternative to priority summer man

‘Steve Cook?’ Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are pretty shocked by The Sun’s claims that the Bournemouth centre-back is being lined up by the Toffees as an alternative to main target Michael Keane.

The Merseyside club look set for a big off-season in the transfer market as they look to keep pace with the Premier League’s top six after a fine debut season for Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park and Burnley’s star defender has been mooted as a player they want.

The Clarets ace has impressed with Sean Dyche’s team and as other clubs such as bitter rivals Liverpool look at the England newbie, The Sun claim that Everton are considering alternatives, with Cook an option.

The 25-year-old has been a key figure for the Cherries since their promotion to the top-tier and has really impressed this term, topping the Premier League’s clearances and headers away from goal charts, while ranking behind only Keane in aerial duels won by a defender.

While his progress has been overlooked by the Three Lions set-up, Everton have seemingly been wowed by the 6ft. 1” ex-Brighton man as their search for a partner for Ashley Williams continues.

Steve Cook is an underrated Premier League centre-back – agree?
