Everton identify Chelsea player as ideal recruit

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are on good spirits after their victory this weekend and they’ve been discussing the latest transfer rumours during a game of pool.

The Mail on Sunday state Everton may be willing to part ways with Phil Jagielka in order to bring Chelsea full-back Branislav Ivanovic into the club.

England international Jagielka has struggled for regular opportunities this season and has made his frustrations clear, with relegation-threatened Sunderland eyeing his services as David Moyes looks to reunite with the man he managed during his time on Merseyside.

If Jagielka seals an exit, Ivanovic will be eyed as a replacement and the 32-year-old Serbian international could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this month, as he has started just one game for the Blues since September when Antonio Conte shifted to a three-back formation.

Ivanovic’s potential exit could in turn allow Chelsea to sign a new defender and our landlord believes the Blues should let the veteran leave, due to the years of service he has given Chelsea since arriving at the club in 2008.

The Everton fans here in the Tavern aren’t too sure about this, and think that Ivanovic is reaching the latter stages of his career and it is clear to see he his far from his best.

Is allowing Jagielka to leave and replacing him with Ivanovic a wise move? Let us know in the comments below!
