Everton leapfrog big name rivals in race for potentially huge January transfer

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last six months, you’ll know that the Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a new striker to arrive. Indeed, after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku over the course of the summer, our resident Toffees are sweet on the idea of a marquee marksman arriving.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, those propping up our bar are locked in debate over who exactly their beloved side should target when the New Year sales burst open. Well, with those in the blue half of Merseyside eager wanting to see Farhad Moshiri and Sam Allardyce splash some cash, an update from Ladbrokes has proven rather promising.

They make Everton the Premier League favourites to land Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng at 5/1, just behind Real Madrid at 6/4. Indeed, the bookies reveal the Goodison Park outfit have leapfrogged the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for the 28-year-old.

Linked with a £60m move, you can imagine just how happy the Everton fans are at this.

“Big Sam is taking full advantage of being at a club with plenty in the bank, and at 5/1, we’re not going to rule out a mega move for Aubameyang”, said Alex Apati of Ladbrokes.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Everton certainly do have cash to spend and questions marks have been raised about Aubamayeng’s future after falling out with Dortmund’s last manager. However, few would doubt the Gabon star could play for a team far above the level of Everton and all the money in the world may not be enough to tempt him.
