As confirmed by the club, Everton defender Lewis Gibson has joined Fleetwood Town on loan until the end of the season – with the Englishman apparently putting pen to paper and finalising the terms of a new deal before heading to Highbury Stadium.
Gibson, who last played for the Toffees U23s during a 2-2 draw with Chelsea youth last week, is tipped as a ‘natural born leader‘ by academy boss David Unsworth and could have bags of potential moving forward. The 19-year-old has also featured for England U17s during their World Cup triumph three years ago, playing alongside the likes of Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Now, though, Gibson will be sent out on loan to Fleetwood in a bid to gain more competitive experience – possibly helped by playing under the tutelage of former top-flight midfielder Joey Barton.
However, some supporters are divided over whether this will halt the youngster’s progression or benefit it – taking to Twitter in full debate. For example, one fan labelled the decision as ‘woeful‘, hinting that he will not develop in League One. Find all of their best comments down below.
Woeful loan. As if he’ll develop in league 1

Surley he’s better than this

He (should) get regular games in a competitive mens league.
Better than sitting doing nothing given how the U23 league has only 7 games to play.
Also a higher standard.
Maybe next season a full year in championship after which he’s ready.

I reckon he’ll excel and show it then get some much needed game time in too. They’ll do well with him imo

Excellent business for fleetwood. Hopefully he smashes it and at least gets on the bench next season.
