The opening weekend of the Premier League season may not have been the most exciting for Everton but the next instalment of our Loan Watch feature may provide Toffees supporters with a bit more to shout about.
Luke Garbutt – Ipswich Town
Luke Garbutt has been a left-back for most of his Everton career, but was converted to a left-midfielder while at Oxford United and has continued there at Ipswich Town.
The 26-year-old showed a brilliant moment of quality to score the opener against Sunderland on Saturday, as he cushioned the ball with his thigh on the edge of the box, flicked it again and then struck it through the goalkeeper’s legs from the finest of angles, as shown on Ipswich Town‘s YouTube channel.
Ipswich were unable to keep hold of their lead though, as Lynden Gooch equalised in the 64th minute.
Jonjoe Kenny – Schalke
Jonjoe Kenny made his Schalke debut against fourth-tier side Drochtersen/Assel in DFB Pokal, with the Bundesliga outfit coming out 5-0 winners.
The Englishman almost had an assist early on as Amine Harit smashed his cross against the post, as shown on the German Football YouTube channel, but he wasn’t directly involved in any of the goals.
Schalke did have a scare at 1-0, as a Drochtersen/Assel free-kick was headed in, but the goal was ruled out for offside and Kenny’s side went on to win comfortably.
Kieran Dowell – Derby County
Kieran Dowell played 90 minutes for Derby County as they contested a 0-0 draw against Swansea City – taking their Championship points total to four after two games.
The biggest opportunity of the game fell to Martyn Waghorn after Derby were awarded a penalty, though Freddie Woodman saved his effort.
Dowell had a steady game, as he completed 84% of his passes, made three key passes and completed all three of the dribbles he attempted, as per WhoScored.
