Luke Garbutt has admitted that his future will likely see him leave Goodison Park, as reported by TWTD.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Ipswich Town and when asked about his future, was quoted as saying: “With a year left on my contract and I’m out on loan again, it’s probably going to be away from Everton, but I’m just focusing on the here and now and performing well for Ipswich.”
The Englishman’s contract runs out next summer and there has been no notable reporting of a potential renewal.
Garbutt has made a total of 12 appearances during his Everton career, with four of those coming off the bench, as per Transfermarkt. His latest game for the Toffees came in 2015, during a 2-0 loss at the hands of Sunderland.
In the 10 years he has been an Everton player, Garbutt has had six loan spells away across the Championship, League One and League Two.
Having started as a left-back, Garbutt now also operates as a left-winger, so if he was to return to Everton, he could be competing with the likes of Richarlison and Bernard for a place in the team.
Garbutt is probably right that his future lies away from Goodison Park, as it doesn’t seem he will be able to reach the required level.
2016/17 was the last time he even managed to play in the Championship, so there is little chance of him playing for a side who have hopes of competing in the Champions League, something Marco Silva spoke about last season.
