Everton man potentially facing exit at last amid Koeman overhaul – report

Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring return to Goodison Park has had the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern rather emotional.

It was a fairytale return to Merseyside for the 31-year-old and the Toffees in the Tavern are excited about their new era under Ronald Koeman. Having splashed the cash over the course of the summer, these certainly are exciting times for our resident Evertonians.

With Gylfi Sigurdsson the latest to be linked with a move over to the club, reports from the Daily Mail shed some light on just what kind of impact the Icelandic star could have on Koeman’s squad.

In their Football Whispers round-up, they claim his arrival could allow James McCarthy to move to Newcastle United. The Republic of Ireland international may struggle for game time with Everton as it is, so could potentially be moved on.

The Magpies have been touted as a potential landing spot for the former Wigan man for some time now and Rafa Benitez could certainly do with some further reinforcement on Tyneside.

A huge part of Everton’s set-up under Roberto Martinez, the Irishman’s days seem numbered, and not too many of our punters are overly concerned.

Landlord’s Verdict:

McCarthy will undoubtedly a pretty big earner, so even sending him out on loan could free up funds and space for Everton. Few would doubt his quality in central areas, though the arrival of more dynamic options seems to have spelt an end to his tenure at the club.
