Another week, another forward linked with a move to Everton. Indeed, David Neres looks like the real deal though, and the club should splash the cash on him in summer.
The Ajax winger has eight goals and 11 assists to his name, having made 26 appearances this season. That’d be music to Evertonians’ ears considering the poor season Theo Walcott’s had at the club, registering just three goals and two assists in 32 Premier League games.
Richarlison hasn’t lit up the league like people thought he was going to do either. He’s scored 12 goals, but for their main man, that’s simply not good enough. Given the opportunity, Neres could double that tally if he got the right service from the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Esporte (via HITC) have claimed Everton are interested in the 22-year-old trickster who’s valued at £28.8m on Transfermarkt. That’s the type of money the fans expect the club to be paying so they can build a squad capable of reaching Europe once again.
Neres’ age would mean the signing is a long-term investment and Marco Silva would be able to mould him into his system for the foreseeable future. The club are building a new stadium at the Albert Dock and want to create a better future for the club, so they should continue that by signing this Brazilian.
He’s basically a better Richarlison and they bought him for a whopping £35m. Aside from the money, it’s clear just how much Everton need quality in the wide areas. It’s one thing to say they need an out-and-out striker, but they also need players to feed the forwards, and their existing wingers just haven’t done that enough this season.
Everton should swoop for this Ajax youngster before he becomes too expensive and too prestigious for them to attract. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is, Marcel Brands.
