Everton: Marco Silva very happy with defensive record

Everton will temporarily go top of the table with victory over Aston Villa, which Marco Silva would, of course, like to achieve, as reported by Sky Sports.

However, there is another thing he is focused on doing which nobody would be able to take away from him and his players until their next game: maintaining their record of being the only Premier League side yet to concede a goal.

Speaking about this impressive record, Silva said: “It makes me really proud, we are working really hard to achieve something like that. These numbers are fantastic.

“It is up to us to keep working. The feeling is really good when we finish a match and I can look to them and we haven’t conceded a goal. It means we are working well together and they understand the plan and our way to defend, which starts up front.”

If the Toffees are able to extend their run of clean sheets to three then it will be the first time a top-flight team has done so at the beginning of a season since 1912 – which puts into context how brilliant an achievement this would be.

Crystal Palace and Watford only managed to get a combined four shots on target against the Toffees, as per WhoScored, which highlights how resolute the blue defence has been – even with Morgan Schneiderlin getting sent off in the first of those matches.

The fact that Yerry Mina and Michael Keane are the top-rated Everton players shows how solid they have been, while Jordan Pickford, Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman are all in the top six.

There is every chance that Everton can keep this run going, considering how impressive they have been defensively so far.

It will be really encouraging if they do pull it off and highlight how good a partnership Keane and Mina are forming, as well as adding validation for the rest of the defence.
