Everton: Midfield general Boubakary Soumare would take Toffees to next level - Everton

It’s clear to see Everton are building a squad for the future that’s capable of playing fast, exciting football. Indeed, signing Boubakary Soumare would fit both those criteria perfectly.

The Lille defensive midfielder has played 14 games this season in Ligue 1 at just 20-years-old, and he’s already got admirers across Europe. L’equipe have linked Everton to the Frenchman and it’s no surprise they’ll be looking at him.

Idrissa Gueye used to play for Lille too and they’re both very similar players. They’re hard-working yet manage to still have the technical ability to make the right passes when they receive the ball. These traits are invaluable to Marco Silva as he looks to embed his style at Goodison Park.

With the counter-attacking style Everton play at times, they can open games into an end-to-end battle. They need disciplined and strong defensive midfielders to prevent the opposition from catching their other players out of position. Soumare is a great firefighter.

His age means he could be a great long-term signing for the Toffees. With their plans to challenge for Europe and a new stadium on the way, they need a squad that can grow together into a coherent unit. The 20-year-old is a key piece to this puzzle.

He’s rated at just £4.5m on Transfermarkt and that’s a real bargain for a player who can add discipline to this hit-and-miss Everton side. The board should jump at the chance to snatch him up.
