Everton fans here in the Tavern are already preparing for the summer having stumbled to safety this season. It really hasn’t been an impressive showing from the Toffees thus far but it could have been a lot worse considering that relegation was once a very real threat early on.
The owners and scouting system will desperately need to make changes when recruiting this summer so that Everton can rise back up to challenge for the European places, where they believe that they belong. The arrivals last summer simply weren’t good enough and Goodison Park will be preparing for a lot of transfer activity this upcoming transfer window.
One player that Everton should most definitely consider signing is Toulouse’s centre-back Issa Diop, valued at £19.80 million on Transfermarkt. The 21-year-old is highly rated and has been a stand out player for the Ligue 1 side this season. Captain Diop has played in 30 games across all competitions this season and, within that time, helped his side to 10 clean sheets, something Everton have found very tricky to do this season.
Ashley Williams and Michael Keane have been faced with deep scrutiny as the centre-back pairing have been very sloppy and mistake-ridden at times this season. Bringing in a talented 21-year-old, though one with decent experience, ticks both boxes about Diop being young but also proven in the French league.
Having burst onto the scene in the 2015/16 season, now would be a great time for Everton to acquire a solid defensive talent that could help bring stability and leadership to the nervous-looking back-line.
Thoughts Everton fans – Is Issa Diop worth splashing the cash on?
