Everton striker Oumar Niasse has been linked with a move back to Turkey with Trabzonspor, according to reports.
The Senegal international has struggled for game time during the current campaign and his contract with the Toffees expires in June, with no hints of an improved deal from the club’s hierarchy. Indeed, the 29-year-old has only made three appearances from the bench for the Merseyside club this season, with 19 minutes of football under his belt, as per Whoscored.
According to the Turkish publication Fotospor, Niasse has attracted interest from the Super Lig club Trabzonspor who are looking to capture the Senegalese striker on a free transfer in the summer. He is no stranger to football in that part of the world, having made 40 appearances for Akhisarspor during the 2013/14 campaign.
He went to put his name on the radar of Goodison Park officials at the Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow before signing for Everton in 2016 for £13.5m. Having scored just nine goals and provided four assists in 42 appearances for the Blues, he has been labelled as one of the worst January transfers ever (according to the Guardian) and supporters were equally as critical after he rejected a return to Russia. Understandably, the Gwladys Street faithful have had enough of Niasse and would be more than happy to see him exit the door in the summer free of charge.
For a player to earn £55,000-a-week (per SpotRac) and not start a single game for Carlo Ancelotti’s side is a clear indication of the manager’s intentions. His inevitable departure from Merseyside in the summer is the best for both parties as the Blues can potentially march towards European football, and Niasse can get more regular first-team football elsewhere.
Has Oumar Niasse been one of Everton's worst signings?
With Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge recently making the move to Karadeniz Fırtınası, there are familiar Premier League faces for him to mix in with and would be an ideal destination for Niasse to continue his career. At the age of 29 and with his chances at Goodison Park dwindling, it is the only positive outcome from this long-winded saga.
