Everton Pays Compensation to Leeds for Garbutt

lukegarbutt_2324803Everton was made to pay a compensation of £600,000 for Luke Garbutt, the 16-year old defender, to Leeds United. Ken Bates, chairman of the League One side, accused Everton of nicking the young defender during the summer transfer window and getting him to join the club.

The tribunal, which was held on Monday (September 7), set Toffees a sum of £600,000, which could amount to £1.5 million, taking into consideration the add-ons involved.

If you go by Ray Holl, who is the boss of the Everton Academy, the English Youth International can be tagged as a wonderful proposition.

Bates was disappointed with the sum of £200,000, which was offered for the product of his club’s academy. This is why he went ahead and asked for a sizeable compensation.

During an interview, which was done before the result of the tribunal, Bates commented, “We are disappointed of always getting paid peanuts for the hard work that we put in our players at the academy. It is high time that we get compensated adequately.”

“The ban on Chelsea should be a good example to others. The compensation factor will not be given more importance by the Football League Tribunal with the implementation of the ban on such a high-profile club.”

If you take my view, this is still not a bad deal for Everton. £600,000 (or even 1.5 million) is an acceptable deal for Garbutt, who has all the traits to be the future of English football.
