Leicester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have a had a few scares this transfer window, but a deal is yet to go through for any of the Champions’ top stars thus far.
But the Liverpool Echo reports today that Ronald Koeman is eyeing Leicester’s man between the sticks, Kasper Schmeichel, and a bid worth £17m, matching the Dane’s buy out clause, may be tabled in the coming weeks.
However, the new Everton coach’s toughest task will be attempting to lure the Premier League winner, who played every game of Leicester’s miracle season, away from the King Power, with Champions League football on the table next term.
In contrast, the 29-year-old could more then double his £35,000-a-week wage on Merseyside and in turning 30 next year, whispers of reaching his peak could factor in with the decision. Schmeichel only has two years left on his contract and Leicester may be reluctant to extend that period.
An interesting transfer war this could turn out out be.
