The Everton fans who are drinking in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted if their club secures the latest deal they’ve been linked with. Indeed, it’s not been a great season for the Toffees here in the Tavern, though the thought of another summer splurge has excited the punters propping up our bar.
According to the Times, the Toffees are prepared to pay an astonishing £8M signing-on fee to secure the services of Jack Wilshere from Arsenal, should he not extend his current contract over in north London. The English midfielder is a free agent at the end of the season, and he has yet to agree on a contract extension at Arsenal.
It is reported that Everton are exceedingly keen to sign Wilshere this summer and it’s clear to see why. Despite all his injury problems, the 26-year-old has made 190 appearances for the Gunners, scoring a total of 14 goals and few would truly doubt his quality.
While Jack Wilshere has failed to reach his potential, he is still a decent player, and he could be of great benefit to Everton.
The only issue that might undermine the Toffees’ move is the fact that Wilshere is injury-prone and he is rarely devoid of injury troubles. However, Everton’s team desperately need some fresh legs and perhaps he could spark a catalyst for change on Merseyside.
