It’s been a big summer of change for the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve enjoyed watching Ronald Koeman splash some serious cash on Merseyside.
Still, they’re hoping for just a bit of continuity heading into next term in order to help bed in all the new faces, so reports from the Daily Mail have gone down rather well indeed.
They’ve revealed the Toffees are aiming to offer Gareth Barry a new one-year contract on Merseyside, despite reported interest from West Bromwich Albion.
Indeed, the Baggies have been touted as a potential landing spot for the 36-year-old of late, despite his popularity amongst the Toffees in the Tavern.
According to the report, the Midlands outfit have offered the former England international a two-year contract – a big deal at this stage of his career- though his current employers are understood to want him to stay.
Despite his age, Barry has proved to be a wonderful signing since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2014, providing the club with a solid midfield base from which to build upon.
Though he’s still to decide his next move, our local Evertonians are keen on seeing him stay in blue.
One of the most experienced men to have ever played in the Premier League, his prolonged presence at Goodison Park can only be a good thing. He, along with Wayne Rooney, offer title-winning experience and few would doubt his ability to operate at the highest level.
Would be a huge loss, both on and off the pitch.
