The Everton fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports of a surprising bid for a new goalkeeper.

According to the Sun, the Merseyside outfit are preparing what would be an utterly sensational £40m bid for Manchester City and England custodian Joe Hart.

With hefty new investment from new backer Farhad Moshiri, the Toffees are reportedly ready to test new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s commitment to Hart by making the mega offer for the keeper.

Should City chose to accept, the 29-year old stopper could be in line for a massive £200,000 per week to move to Goodison Park.

Hart’s future at the Etihad remains in doubt with Guardiola understood to desire a ‘keeper more technically gifted, having been linked with Barcelona ace Marc Andre Ter-Stegen.

Everton’s stalwart between the sticks, Tim Howard, is heading back across the Atlantic this summer over a decade with the club.

Should Hart leave City? Does he deserve to be an undisputed Number 1?
