Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern have really enjoyed their first season under Ronald Koeman but they are, naturally, worried about where he could head in the near future.
The Dutch manager has enjoyed a fine maiden season in charge on Merseyside and looks set to help guide them to a seventh placed finish in the Premier League.
That’s certainly an improvement on last season, then, but the worry is that eventually the Dutchman will want to manage Barcelona – especially with their current struggles.
However, worried Evertonians may be able to sleep a little easier at the moment with Guillem Balague’s latest comments over the Nou Camp job for Sky Sports.
The Spanish football expert said:
“Ronald Koeman is favoured by a section of the media, but there are a lot of doubts about his managerial career within the Barcelona board.”
That has to come as a boost, then, for our local Blues and those in the wider footballing world.
And, with that in mind, it should be at least a fair amount of time before Koeman does move on to pastures new from Goodison Park.
In the meantime, then, the focus has to be building on this season and what all Toffees really want is a return right to the summit of the table – something Koeman will feel he can do.
