Everton supporters have been significantly more upbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Premier League courtesy of a 2-0 success over in-form Brighton on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the South Coast outfit off the back of consecutive defeats at the hands of Watford and Burnley, results which kept the threat of relegation lingering among our resident Toffees fans. Yet their team all but banished those concerns on Saturday as a Gaetan Bong own goal alongside Cenk Tosun’s first goal at Goodison Park sealed a routine victory for the Merseysiders, thus propelling them into the top half of the Premier League and ten points clear of the bottom three.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Evertonians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which suggests that their side are seeking to exploit Jack Wilshere’s contract stand-off with Arsenal by readying a summer move for the midfielder.
The 26-year-old came up through the ranks at the North London giants and has since gone on to make 190 appearances for the Gunners, although his time at the Emirates Stadium has been decimated by various injuries.
The England international sees his contract at the club expire in the summer, and while negotiations are reportedly taking place, there is reportedly ‘no progress’ between the two parties, thus leaving his future hugely unclear heading into the final few months of the campaign.
And reports suggest that Allardyce’s Everton are seeking to exploit the current contract stand-off by readying a move for the midfielder this summer, as the Toffees bid to bolster their ranks ahead of what they hope will be a significantly better season next time round.
And with the Merseysiders reportedly ready to offer him higher wages than what Arsenal are currently proposing, it’s a deal which could well take place come the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Jack Wilshere’s time at Arsenal has been littered with various injuries, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to Bournemouth last season in a bid to build up his fitness once again.
Yet the 26-year-old has certainly proven his worth so far this term with 32 appearances for the Gunners, but he is no nearer to penning a new contract at the Emirates Stadium to plunge his future into huge uncertainty.
And it’s uncertainly Everton are reportedly seeking to exploit, as the Toffees are reportedly readying a move for the England international this summer, with higher wages reportedly being put on the table by the Merseysiders.
And given the reinvigoration that has taken place with Theo Walcott since his move to Goodison Park, Wilshere may well be interested by a possible move to the North West.
