Responding to a piece by journalist Greg O’Keeffe for The Athletic, Everton supporters have slammed the coverage surrounding Barcelona’s £85 million January bid for striker Richarlison – with some fans deeming the reaction to the news as ‘hysterical‘.
The Athletic piece details that news surrounding the supposed £85 million swoop for Everton’s forward was shot down by both clubs who reportedly denied any talks over the Brazilian, despite Sky Sports News claiming a bid for Richarlison had definitely been lodged by La Liga giants Barcelona. This same report also stated that the Toffees rejected the offer, leaving sections of the media scratching their heads over how they can turn down such a massive offer (TalkSport).
The 22-year-old, who has scored eight league goals in 22 starts this season (WhoScored.com), seemingly won’t be on the move according to this piece from The Athletic – with Toffees supporters lambasting the coverage surrounding a ‘ghost bid‘ for the player. Would be nice if people like @talkSPORTDrive would conduct a modicum of fact checking before launching a hysterical reaction on his radio show to what was a completely made up story.

You haven’t highlighted it here, but can only imagine it did wonders for Sky Sports traffic. They were peddling Bruno Fernandes repeatedly for a long while

It suits skybet. Generating income with false stories encouraging people to bet

It was leaked by sky sports to do a couple of things 1 spike interest in a very poor transfer window and it doesn’t make sense trying to upset their lovable top 6 and 2 unsettle one of our players as it’s obvious sky the BBC and BT sport’s all dislike #EFC

Good for sky sports as the window was boring, and to appease Everton fans for lack of activity.
