Everton rocked with top target set for La Liga stay, enigma opts for Spanish project

Emery

With uncertainty still surrounding Goodison Park over the vacant managerial position, the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t know whether to make heads or tails of this one.

Unai Emery, scourge of Liverpool, had emerged as a surprise target to take over from the axed Roberto Martinez after leading Sevilla to three successive Europa League titles.

It had been previously reported that the Merseyside outfit were due to meet the enigmatic 44-year old after Ronald Koeman decided to stay at Southampton.

However, Los Nervionenses president Jose Castro has poured cold water over suggestions the Spaniard will leave Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán over the coming months.

“The coach has understood our idiosyncrasies perfectly,” he told Sevilla TV.

‘He is crazy about football, the hours he puts in, how he manages the squad. I say that now after being successful, but also at the start of the season.’

‘I can tell you he has said he is not on the market and is not thinking about anything else.’

The likes of Frank De Boer, Manuel Pellegrini and a return for former boss David Moyes have also been mooted as potential options as their manager search continues.

Everton fans, who do you want as your new manager?
