Many Everton fans have heaped praise on Seamus Coleman for his latest comments on being captain of the club.
The 31-year-old defender began his professional football career with Sligo Rovers back in his homeland of Ireland.
Spending four years with The Bit o’Red, Coleman impressed enough to gain interest from the Premier League with Everton keen to make a move, something they did in the January transfer window of 2009.
Costing as little as £60,000, the Republic of Ireland international arrived and despite a loan spell with Blackpool, has since gone on to become a key part of the Toffees squad, starting regularly over the last 11 seasons.
Such a presence in the side at Goodison Park warranted the club’s decision in 2019 to make Coleman club captain after Phil Jagielka ended his 12-year spell at the club.
With football at a current standstill due to the recent pandemic, Coleman has taken time to discuss his time at the club and his role as captain.
Reacting to the interview via the club’s official website and Twitter account, fans responded with nothing but praise for the defender. Several even described him as a “legend“:
💙 l ‘Being the Everton captain is something I will never take for granted.’

What a legend and a servant he has been for us. While he catches so much stick for not being in his prime anymore, you can’t hate the guy. If only he could win a trophy with us

Seamus is so underrated by our fans its criminal…
If we are handing out legend status for not winning anything,
Seamus and Leighton get legendary status,
why they could of both went onto bigger clubs and won trophys
The millennials will never see a pairing like that again💙
