Everton and Sheffield United fans in the Transfer Tavern have gathered by the pool table today to discuss a surprise move that was attempted last night.
Sky Sports report that Everton saw a bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale rejected by the League One promotion chasers, who are keen to keep their talented 18-year-old asset at Bramall Lane.
Making two appearances this season, both of which came in the FA Cup, Ramsdale has a soaring reputation and has established himself as understudy to first-choice stopper Simon Moore for the Blades, pushing 23-year-old George Long out of contention.
With Everton having just 34-year-old Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles as senior options in their side, a swoop for Ramsdale makes sense as he’d be the ideal successor to the ageing Dutchman- though Sheffield United are standing firm.
Our landlord believes this deal won’t go ahead before tonight’s deadline but thinks the saga could be reignited at the end of the season, as he feels Stekelenburg could be moved on from Goodison Park.
Should Everton establish themselves as leaders in the chase for Ramsdale? Let us know in the comments below!
