Everton set to sign Koeman favourite after failed approach last year

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing major changes their side could make this summer, with fresh reports filtering in suggesting transfer business is imminent.

The Liverpool Echo states the Toffees are set to sign Cuco Martina on a free transfer following his release from Southampton, with Ronald Koeman keen to work with the full-back he managed during his time in charge on the South Coast.

Everton made an approach to sign the 27-year-old last summer but the Saints rebuffed an approach, although a clear path to a deal is now laid in front of Koeman’s side as Southampton have confirmed Martina is one of four players who will be released from the club.

Martina would be a significant capture for Ronald Koeman’s side as he has history working with the Dutch boss, whilst he’d be able to fill the void left by Seamus Coleman’s horrific injury sustained on international duty earlier this year.

Mason Holgate has filled-in when required this season but the youngster’s future lies in central defence, which has left Koeman looking for a natural right-back and our landlord believes Martina would be a great addition to the squad at Goodison Park.
