Everton have indicated that they are set to have another busy summer transfer window after what has been somewhat of a disappointing season at Goodison Park. Good news, right? Well, not quite.

Despite being very active in last summer's market, the Toffees failed to generate the necessary results in the Premier League which would make them a competing powerhouse again.

Instead, the huge amount of money they spent last year has left them struggling to break into the top ten of the league and good performances have been difficult to achieve for Marco Silva's men. And, the Daily Mail now indicates that the Merseyside club have targeted a number of positions, which they would like to strengthen.

Everton's director of football, Marcel Brands, has not yet confirmed whether the manager's position in the club is safe but the report suggests that the club wants to sign two strikers, full-backs, another goalkeeper and a midfielder.

Brands, though, will have to be careful of just wanting to sign a number of players he feels might be the difference for Everton.

Ultimately, the club must avoid what happened last summer transfer window - and the one before - when they signed a hand full of players with rather good reputations, without them delivering during this season. Instead, those on the blue half of Merseyside should be very specific in who they would like to recruit and make sure the players they do actually sign would make a difference in Marco Silva's team.

Of all the signings Everton made last summer, only Lucas Digne and Richarlison have lived up to expectation, while other players like Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina have looked good at times but haven't done enough to suggest that they will be permanent Everton players in the future.

So much money has been wasted over the last few years and, despite the vast amount of riches in the Premier League these days, there isn't a bottomless pit. At the moment, it seems decision makers at the club can't see the wood for the trees.

They simply have to.
