Everton had another busy summer this time around as new manager Marco Silva was given free reign to add new players to his squad.

The likes of Richarlison, Bernardo, and Yerry Mina all bring quality with them, and the Toffees will be expected to challenge near the top six this term all being well.

However, with Ashley Williams sold on and Phil Jagielka well into his twilight now, we at the Tavern think that the club should have moved to sign another central defender in Sheffield United stalwart Jack O'Connell.

Over the last few years, the former Brentford man has developed into one of the Championship's leading defenders, with his powerful runs from left centre back becoming something of a trademark.

O'Connell looks to have all the qualities to become a Premier League player, and he has become a firm fan favourite at Bramall Lane due to his commanding performances in the last two seasons.

While Everton did indeed sign Mina, and have quality in the ranks, signing someone like O'Connell is the sort of move we can see a club like Everton completing. If O'Connell could go on to have anywhere near the career former Blade Jagielka has had at Goodison, then it would be a superb piece of business indeed.

Everton fans, what do you think? Would O'Connell have been a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
