Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are trying not to get too excited about what their club could do this season under Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees, of course, enjoyed a fine season last year and were easily the best side after the top six in the division.
The plan for the new campaign, then, has to be to break into the top six and see how far they can go and it appears as though that is exactly the plan.
Indeed, Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen have already walked through the doors and now the men from Goodison Park, we think, should go for Valencia left-back Jose Gaya as the next piece of the puzzle.
Indeed, the 22-year-old defender is looking to be a class act at the moment and you get the feeling it won’t be too long until he leaves the Mestalla.
There should be quite the battle on for his signature too, then, and we reckon if the Toffees can steal in they’ll be looking good for a serious top four challenge – let alone top six.
Of course, Leighton Baines is still a solid left-back to have but he is past the peak of his powers now and if the Blues are serious about re-establishing themselves amongst the country’s elite, these are the signings that need to be made.
And, at a valuation – as per Transfermarkt – of £15.3 million, there can be no doubt that Everton could afford him.
