Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are really hoping that their side is going to get off to a flyer when the Premier League begins in under two week’s time.
The men from Goodison Park have had a top summer so far with the likes of Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen all arriving in eye-catching deals.
Furthermore, the club has been busy in the selling department, too, with Romelu Lukaku heading off to Manchester United in a whopping deal and it seems like the big departures might just continue.
Indeed, Ross Barkley has been touted as a man nearing the exit door this summer and Ronald Koeman certainly hasn’t suggested that the case is otherwise.
The Blues, then, may have to look for a replacement but, in actual fact, they should be looking to try and keep Barkley this season – even if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
That, of course, might seem illogical as they will miss out on a transfer fee but the club is heading in the right direction and with European football, Barkley might just see that Everton is the place to be.
Indeed, in a World Cup year he is guaranteed a start week in, week out with the Toffees and many players hoping to go to that tournament would surely like that to be on offer to them.
His talent cannot be denied, either, and even with a month to go in the market it is hard to see where the club would find a replacement as good as him so risking losing him for free next year is one that they should be willing to take.
