Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the 2018/19 Premier League season following the appointment of Marco Silva as the new Toffees manager last month.

The 40-year-old takes over at Goodison Park following the departure of Sam Allardyce at the end of last season, this all despite leading the Toffees to an eighth place finish in the Premier League. However, he did so in a way that wasn’t well received by Evertonians up and down the country, many of whom are delighted to see Portuguese Silva take the reins at the Merseyside outfit ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

As such, there are many excited and indeed expectant Toffees supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports suggesting that Wayne Rooney does indeed appear to be on his way out of Goodison Park.

But with the Merseysiders having been linked with a move for £9 million-rated midfield ace Aaron Mooy (as per Transfermarkt) in recent times, it appears that Silva already has his perfect replacement for the former England captain lined up.

Ultimately, things haven’t quite worked for 32-year-old Rooney since his return to Everton 12 months ago, with the midfielder failing to properly live up to expectations following his move from Manchester United.

How far will England get in Russia? Tell us now

Yes, England’s record goal-scorer still finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 11 goals in all competitions, but many of our resident Toffees fans felt that he didn’t add as much as was expected to the Everton side over the course of the campaign.

Some of that may well have been to do with where he was playing, with Rooney sometimes utilised in a deeper midfield role, much to his frustration, but regardless there is no doubting that they will indeed miss his presence in the middle of the park when he does indeed secure a move to DC United.

Yet Huddersfield Town’s hugely impressive Mooy could be the perfect replacement for the 32-year-old.

The Australia international has enjoyed a wonderful two years at the John Smith’s Stadium, first of all in helping them win promotion via the play-offs from the Championship back in 2017, before inspiring the Terriers to achieve the unthinkable and retain their top-flight status last term.

And the 27-year-old has played as big a part as any in helping David Wagner’s side avoid the drop last season, scoring four goals and laying on four assists in all competitions, and indeed having a big influence on their play in the middle of the park.

And after a fine World Cup campaign with the Socceroos, even if they did bow out in the group stages, Mooy looks set for an extremely bright few years, and could be exactly what Everton need to replace the imminently departing Rooney this summer.

Thus, with the 32-year-old set to leave for DC United, Silva must turn his attentions to luring Mooy to Goodison Park to compensate for Rooney’s departure.
